The Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge is a simple water measuring mechanism with
a magnetic reed switch to indicate bucket position.
My Peet Brothers TB Rain Gauge stopped working after about 19 years so I
took it apart to fix it.
It took two tries to form the leads at 90 degrees to solder onto the
small circuit board. I broke the glass on the first replacement part.
The second try works fine.
The glass tube is the reed switch. There is a magnet covered with black
plastic at the end of the bucket arm. The right bucket is visible in the
upper right of this picture.
The switch closes briefly when the magnet swings past the reed switch.
